Welcome to our 2011 Council Elections web site - we hope you find the site useful and will take the time to fill in our
questionnaire which seeks to find out your views on services and policies.
We have deliberately kept the site simple so you can get the information you need – with links to the area in which you live and the Labour candidates who hope you will support them on the 5th May.
Our Council has done extremely well over recent years delivering good services and were worthy winners of the Council of the Year title last year – but now they face very tough times.
The threat to local Council services has never been greater – with the Borough Council having to cut expenditure by 28% over the next four years which will impact everything from the education of our children to the repairs to our roads.
But this election is about far more than Council services – it is about crime as police numbers are cut by 230 across Cleveland; about the National Health Service where hundreds of doctors, nurses and support staff have either lost their jobs or will soon affecting hospital waiting times; and it’s about the future of families and young people who are suffering most and having to pay for the mistakes of international banks.
It is your first chance to send the Tory-led Government and their Liberal Democrat allies a message that they are doing the wrong things which are harming our communities and our future.
