Billingham Labour Team: Jean O'Donnell and Mike Smith
There has never been a more important local election as our Council faces huge cuts in its budgets and our area needs strong people to stick up for our community.
And with Jean O'Donnell and Mike Smith, who have served the area for more than 40 years between them, we have a Labour team that will fight your corner as everything from police numbers to leisure services suffer under the Tory/Lib Dem Government.
They'll work to ensure that critical local services like street cleaning, refuse collection, job creation, bus services and environmental improvements are maintained.
With Billingham House within their ward, Jean and Mike have despaired at times as move after move to have the eyesore removed or redeveloped has come and gone but now share the joy of local residents as demolition begins. The town has suffered setbacks in recent years but with the new look Forum, new shops and two new supermarkets planned – one of them beside the Billingham Arms and new health facilities, it's clear the area has turned the corner.
Much more however still needs to be done and Jean and Mike will be your voice in tough times and make things happen
